It's all about longevity
✔ The approved Fernham accessories have been specifically selected to support the long-term durability and performance of the Fernham Traditional Shed.
✔ Guttering is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. It helps manage rainwater runoff from the roof and significantly reduces water splashback onto the lower cladding and underside of the shed - one of the main causes of long-term deterioration in timber garden buildings. REMEMBER TO INCLUDE 2 GUTTERING ACCESSORIES AT THE CORRECT SIZE - ONE FOR EACH EAVES SIDE.
✔ OSMO Decking Oil is a premium exterior timber oil recommended for the tanalised Weatherboard cladding used on the Fernham Traditional Shed. While tanalised timber is pressure treated to resist rot, insects, and fungal decay, the treatment itself does not create a water-resistant seal. The OSMO oil helps repel moisture, nourish the timber, and maintain the appearance of the cladding over time. The Cosy Shed Co. will apply the oil during manufacture, with remaining product supplied for future homeowner maintenance.
✔ OSMO UV Protection Oil is recommended for Cedar Shingle roofs. Cedar is an extremely durable timber, however prolonged UV exposure naturally turns the shingles from their rich reddish tones to a silvery grey over time. The oil helps nourish the timber, reduce drying out during warmer weather, and slow the natural silvering process. The Cosy Shed Co. will apply the oil during manufacture, with remaining product supplied for future homeowner maintenance.

Do the sheds come painted?
✔ The Door and Window accents are painted in F&B Wimborne White.
✔ The Tanalised green Weatherboard cladding used on the Fernham Traditional design is put through a tanalising pressure treatment process at the timber manufacturing stage. However, it can be given an additional clear oiled protective finish in the workshop. This is the OSMO Decking Oil accessory that can be added.
✔ Alternatively the homeowner can paint the cladding in their own time and The Cosy Shed Co. can provide advice on paint choice.

How should homeowners maintain the Fernham Traditional Shed?
✔ Keep overhanging branches, leaves, and debris clear from the roof and surrounding area to help prevent moisture build-up and unnecessary wear.
✔ Any installed guttering should be checked and cleared regularly to ensure rainwater flows away correctly from the building.
✔ The tanalised Weatherboard cladding should be sealed with a suitable clear timber preservative, such as the recommended OSMO Decking Oil accessory, as soon as practical after installation. Alternatively, the homeowner can paint the cladding if they wish.
✔ To help preserve the appearance and long-term durability of the shed, the timber should be re-sealed annually, with the door and window paintwork maintained as required.
✔ Particular attention should be given to the lower sections of the building, where rainwater splashback and ground moisture naturally create greater long-term exposure.
✔ Timber naturally expands and contracts throughout the seasons. Small areas may require periodic re-sealing or repainting over time as the timber moves and settles.
✔ During colder or wetter periods, doors may occasionally swell slightly. If needed, gently ease the door open carefully
using a credit card or loyalty card behind a lever to prevent splintering the timber and re-adjust the lock. Do not force the timber or hardware.
✔ Open the door and windows - good airflow and ventilation are important, particularly during winter and early spring, to help reduce condensation, mould and mildew inside the shed.
✔ Damp tools, bikes, or stored items should be dried before storage where possible to minimise internal moisture build-up.
✔ Soft furnishings like cushions must be stored in air tight bags or containers or they draw in air moisture and will become damaged with mould and mildew.
✔ Never put floor coverings or carpet in a shed unless fitting out professionally with damp proof membrane for all year round use (like an office). Otherwise they draw up ground moisture and leave the inside of the shed feeling permanently damp.
✔ Any mould or mildew can typically be removed once dry using a soft brush and a warm water and mild bleach solution.
✔ The doors and windows are fitted with greenhouse glass and should be opened and closed carefully. Use the supplied stays and hooks to secure windows and doors when open.
✔ Cedar Shingle roofs naturally weather and gradually turn silver over time. This process can be slowed by applying a UV protection treatment such as the recommended OSMO UV Protection Oil accessory.
